My name is Loris, or Sir Loris, as she called me. As for a surname, I hadn't found one yet. Or maybe knights don't always need surnames. But I did have a task—a simple one, in theory. I was supposed to be introduced to someone. This might not sound like a great adventure. People meet new people all the time without much prep. Still, introductions hold a strange importance. Until properly introduced, you can be mistaken for anything.

While the plan seemed to be working. He found me. He picked me up. He was looking at me very carefully. A proper introduction. Or at least what I assume one is. The trouble with introductions is they're never complete. Someone sees a helmet, a posture, a piece of armor. Rarely do they notice what you hoped they would first.

And this is not me.

Daddy, can I introduce you to someone?

I needed to find myself first. At least, it seemed sensible. You should probably know who you are before being introduced.

Sorry, Sir Loras. I'll introduce you next time when Dad isn't so busy. A proper introduction is easier between strangers, I think. There's less history to arrange, but with someone close to you. Beginning is more complicated. You consider the right moment and words. If you wait too long, next time never comes. Daddy, I'm home. Hey.

Lydia, would you like to tell me his story? All of it? Yes, all of it.
